Engineering Standards

July 15, 2021

It is vital to hire a professional who is knowledgeable in the engineering standards of the water district in which you are located. These standards can be different from location to location but you will find that Denver Water sets the bar for most districts.

Older backflow prevention devices may no longer be acceptable and knowing what to do next is critical to not paying more than you have to. When consulting a professional about your backflow, be sure that you ask a few simple questions.

1. Are you currently certified with the ASSE?

2. Do you know my water district's engineering standards?

3. Have you installed backflow prevention devices before?

If you do not hear a “yes” to all of the questions above, contact another professional until you hear yes to all three. Your water district holds you responsible for installing an incorrect backflow and will require you to make it right. So, ask the right questions and do it right the first time! It will save you hundreds of dollars!
